Shepparton Villages care facilities will be closed to the community as an additional PRECAUTIONARY measure to the Government recommendations surrounding COVID-19.
We DO NOT have COVID-19, however, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of infection control measures to protect our residents. We are taking the following actions for now and ask the community to please assist us in helping to keep the elderly safe.
All Shepparton Villages residential care facilities will be closed to the community. This means, access to care facilities will only be permitted to direct family members and only if the resident needs to see a family member urgently face to face. In these cases, all visits must have the prior approval of the Executive Manager of Care Services or CEO.
Special circumstances apply to palliative care/end of life residents in consultation with the facilities Care Manager.
If family members are permitted access, it will be on the basis of Shepparton Village’s strict infection control protocols that include a maximum of two visitors at one time per day, conducted in resident rooms.
“This is a precautionary update on the infection control measures we have already been taking given that our residents live in large facilities and receive many visitors and are therefore exposed to hundreds of hands that have touched many things within the community daily. We do this with the safety of our residents at the forefront. We do NOT have COVID-19, and we are doing everything we can to ensure it stays that way, but we need assistance from families and the community to help reduce the risks,” CEO Kerri Rivett said.
“Having said that, we absolutely know how challenging this may be for some, and we want to work together to ensure the best possible outcome for all. We are happy to discuss any concerns with families, and we have put in place socialisation activities within the facilities for residents and we will be assisting families with the best way to keep in touch with loved ones.”
“We have made this decision in addition to previous infection control protocols that are still in place. Residential Care facilities have pre-existing, well developed systems for infection control – so we are hyper aware of best practice infection control.”
“Closing the facilities to the community is a precautionary measure. I cannot emphasise that enough; it is not in response to any COVID-19 outbreaks at Shepparton Villages.”
These measures apply to the care facilities within Shepparton Villages sites. Independent Living Units are considered part of the wider community and should therefore follow community protocols.
Shepparton villages will update residents, staff and families through internal and external communications and through their website, and Facebook page.
