There was plenty of Irish fun on Friday last week as bowlers took to the greens for a special fundraising tournament.
The annual tournament at Shepparton Park Bowls Club raises money for charities and organisations across the Goulburn Valley.
Event committee chairman David Slingo said the charity tournament was expected to raise about $5,000 to go towards planned redevelopments at Shepparton Villages' Hakea Lodge.
"We've been running the event for the past 26 years and each year we pick a different beneficiary, for example, ConnectGV, charities, cancer support, groups, the Salvation Army," he said.
"The committee was deciding on an organisation to sponsor this year and someone joked that one day we'd all end up being in the (Shepparton Villages) beds ....and it went from there."
Mr Slingo thanked the almost 100 local businesses that supported the day, including through prizes for the raffle and the spinning wheel.
The day was attended by about 150 people, including clubs form the Bendigo area, Cobram-Barooga, Euroa and Shepparton.
"People have come to know it's a fun day and it raises money for a good cause," Mr Slingo said.
He said a few people dressed in green in honour of St Patrick's Day.
While yesterday officially marked St Patrick's Day, the tournament traditionally took place on the closest Friday to March 17 to avoid conflict with other club commitments and competitions.
